Pantone Colour of the Year 2017
Last year Pantone announced their colour of the year was not one colour, but two. Rose Quartz and Serenity, a soft light pink and a baby blue took home the prize. For the Pantone Colour of the Year 2017 they have gone back to basics with Greenery.
The idea of the colour of the year is a colour that can give a snapshot of the global culture. The chosen colour aims to serve to give an expression and show the mood of the current situations.
Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute said: “Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalise, Greenery symbolises the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”
The shade puts forth nature’s natural greens. A revival from winter and a demonstrating of the first few days of spring. Last year’s colours encouraged mindfulness and peacefulness, Pantone wrote that their new colour of the year is “illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.”
As well as evoking the first days of spring, Greenery is a versatile colour which goes perfectly with a great range of colour combinations. Whether it’s being used as part of the forest floor colour scheme or earthy, deep rooted schemes, Greenery can be used to portray all seasons and various moods.
Greenery is the second time in the last few years a shade of green has made colour of the year. 2013’s winner Emerald portrayed a sense of luxury and radiance. This year Greenery is a much more laid back colour, closer to last year’s light pink and baby blue.
Fashion companies are showing off their spring ranges using the colour. Mercedes have been showcasing their 2018 AMG GT Roadster in a stunning shade of green too.
